Job summary

ASML in San Jose, CA is seeking a Patent Attorney to join the Corporate IP team. You will partner with engineers and business units to build and manage a global patent portfolio in computational lithography, metrology and inspection.

Responsibilities include guiding outside counsel through drafting and prosecuting patent applications, performing freedom-to-operate analyses, product clearances, and risk assessments, and mentoring colleagues.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of patent experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
• Must be licensed to practice before the United States Patent Office.
• Must be licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state (California preferred).
• Experience with physics, optics, electron optics, or semiconductor processing is strongly preferred.
• Prior in-house experience and ability to interact with engineers and senior management are valued.

Responsibilities

• Actively develop and manage a global patent portfolio, including invention disclosures and inventor interviews.
• Manage outside counsel to prosecute patent applications and draft petitions/appeals.
• Contribute to ASML IP strategies including patent filing and product clearance.
• Provide risk assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, and third-party IP evaluations.
• Interact with engineering and business stakeholders to align patent strategy with business goals.
• Provide guidance to business teams on IP matters and conduct periodic training.
