Job summary

The Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission is seeking a Senior Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker at the Polk Street Maintenance Facility in Hyattsville, MD. The role covers groundskeeping, park and facility maintenance, and operating mowing and other equipment to keep parks safe and welcoming.

Applicants should have at least two years of relevant experience, a valid driver's license, and the ability to lift up to 100 pounds.

Qualifications

• Pass Commission medical examination.
• 18 years of age.
• Two (2) years of experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance, semi-skilled trade work (HVACR, plumbing, painting, masonry, electrical, carpentry).
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total two (2) years.
• Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine inspections of park grounds, facilities, playgrounds, trails, athletic fields, and amenities; reports hazards or needed repairs.
• Operates riding mowers, tractors with attachments, string trimmers, and backpack blowers for general grounds, trail, and field maintenance.
• Performs tree maintenance; operates chainsaws, chipping machine, and stump grinder to clear downed trees, grind brush, and remove stumps.
• Installs and repairs amenities such as signs, grills, picnic tables, fencing, rims and nets, and playground components.
• Maintains playgrounds and trails; cleans and maintains equipment, surfaces, and signage; performs turf care and field lining.
