Job summary

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking a Principal Parks/Facilities Maintenance Worker-CDL to join the Southern Parks Division's Rapid Response Team in Rockville, MD. The role maintains parks, trails, fields, and facilities, handling urgent maintenance, safety issues, and operations of CDL vehicles with occasional nights and weekends.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and four years of progressive groundskeeping or park maintenance experience, plus

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Four years of progressively responsible experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance.
• Valid driver’s license with no encumbrances; must meet state/commission requirements.
• Pass Commission medical examination.
• Within 12 months, obtain a Class-A CDL with appropriate endorsements and certifications including Maryland pesticide applicator, Maryland fertilizer applicator, and National Playground Safety Institute certification.

Responsibilities

• Respond to urgent maintenance issues, safety concerns, and emergencies.
• Perform park, trail, athletic field, facility, and grounds maintenance.
• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Operate Commission vehicles, including CDL‑required vehicles.
• Operate and transport equipment, trailers, and attachments.
• Maintain park cleanliness and site upkeep.
