Job summary

Metra's Law Department seeks a Paralegal to support litigation, corporate, and risk management tasks in Chicago. You will maintain legal records, conduct research, and draft routine correspondence with agency departments and external parties.

Requirements include an associate degree in paralegal studies or higher, at least four years of experience, and strong knowledge of FOIA/OMA. Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and legal tech is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Paralegal Studies, Paralegal Certificate, or Bachelor's degree.
• At least four years of paralegal or comparable legal support experience.
• Knowledge of FOIA, OMA, court procedures.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365 and legal tech used by the department.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys with drafting and maintaining correspondence between agency departments and external parties.
• Organize and maintain paper and electronic records and files.
• Collect and deliver materials to local courts and government buildings.
• Conduct legal research and verify sources.
• Provide guidance to junior staff and coordinate day-to-day activities.
• Serve as FOIA Officer and OMA Officer; respond to FOIA requests; maintain FOIA spreadsheets.
• Promote safety and ensure compliance with regulations.
