Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Paleontologist to lead paleontological investigations across the western United States from our Southern California base. The role involves managing projects, supervising field staff, coordinating with clients and regulatory agencies, and delivering research, surveys, excavations, monitoring, analysis, and reporting in compliance with CEQA and PRPA.

Qualifications

• Experience with paleontological resource mitigation procedures and techniques.
• Graduate-level training in paleontology and geology or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong understanding of applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review paleontological reports, CEQA/NEPA documents, mitigation plans, and annual permit reports.
• Prepare budgets and scopes of work.
• Manage projects from kickoff to completion, including client and agency coordination and scheduling.
• Oversee implementation of mitigation measures including monitoring and fossil collection.
• Lead field projects across the western US; coordinate field teams.
• Supervise field crews and QA/QC of data; coordinate with land managers and clients.
• Participate in data analyses, museum record searches, and literature research.
• Assist with marketing and business development efforts.
• Uphold ethical practices and safety standards in field and office operations.
