Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Paleontologist to lead investigations and mitigation programs across the western United States. Based in Southern California with national staff, you will manage projects, coordinate with clients and agencies, mentor junior staff, and ensure compliance with CEQA, PRPA and related regulations.

The role requires an MS/PhD in paleontology or related field, seven+ years of mitigation experience, and strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Paleontological resource mitigation procedures experience.
• Federal qualifications as a paleontological permittee (e.g., 43 CFR Part 49.110).
• Knowledge of how paleontological resources are used in reporting research.
• Strong understanding of laws and procedures for mitigation paleontology.
• Strong written and verbal communication and leadership abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review paleontological technical reports and CEQA/NEPA documents.
• Prepare budgets and scopes of work for projects.
• Lead project management from kickoff to completion with client and agency coordination.
• Oversee fieldwork and manage field teams and QA/QC of data.
• Coordinate with land management agencies and clients across western US.
• Mentor junior staff and provide training to field crews.
• Support marketing and business development efforts.
• Ensure adherence to ethical practices and regulatory requirements.
• Promote health and safety in field and office operations.
