Job summary

Divergent is seeking a Sr. Packaging Engineer to lead packaging design, development, and procurement for automotive and aerospace programs.

You will coordinate with engineering, program management, and supply chain to ensure compliant, cost-effective packaging solutions that protect hardware during transport and storage. The role requires 5+ years in packaging engineering, CAD proficiency (SolidWorks/Catia), and knowledge of ISTA/ASTM/ISO standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Supply Chain, or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of packaging engineering experience in automotive or aerospace industries.
• Experience managing packaging programs for international logistics and global supply chains.
• Expertise with CAD (SolidWorks, Catia) for 3D packaging design and simulation tools.
• Knowledge of packaging materials (plastics, composites, foams, corrugated) with sustainability focus.
• Familiarity with packaging testing standards (ISTA, ASTM, ISO) and ERP/TMS systems (Oracle, SAP).

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, quoting, and procurement of outbound packaging solutions for automotive and aerospace programs.
• Coordinate with Program Management, Design Engineering, QA, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Logistics to meet technical baselines.
• Implement preservation methods to protect hardware during processing, transport, and storage.
• Create and maintain controlled packaging documentation (drawings, specs, work instructions, test reports).
• Ensure labeling meets military, hazardous materials, serialization, traceability, and shipping requirements.
• Interface with suppliers and labs for material qualification and certification activities.
• Support packaging risk assessments, investigations, and corrective actions.
• Drive packaging strategy from design through launch for new programs.
• Review and optimize inbound packaging solutions to reduce costs.
