Job summary

Merck in Wilson, NC is seeking a Senior Packaging Component Engineer to drive component lifecycle management, quality investigations, and line projects. You will work with external suppliers and global teams to introduce new products and support design transfers and ongoing improvements.

The role reports to the Associate Director of Packaging (Component Engineering) and may require off-shift support for critical needs. Strong collaboration with multiple functions is essential.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in engineering with 4–5 years in packaging operations or design OR related experience.
• GMP environment experience and proven project management skills.
• Experience with problem-solving methods and document reviews.
• Knowledge of medical device and combination product design controls.

Responsibilities

• Author and revise component specifications with cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate with vendors on component testing for qualifications and launches.
• Support design transfer and strategic packaging changes.
• Lead change ownership and project management for component changes.
• Create workflows in GLAMS for printed component drawings.
• Troubleshoot line issues and manage supplier investigations.
• Provide run standards and technical support for packaging components.
• Monitor supplier performance and manage new vendor introductions.
• Facilitate machine trials and assess packaging component changes.
• Provide SME support for deviations and customer field complaints.
• Author quality event investigations and remediation actions.
• Support regulatory inspections and packaging readiness.
