Job summary

Colgate Outdoor Education at Colgate University seeks an Assistant Director to oversee outdoor programming and sixty student staff on campus. The role combines leadership, safety, budgeting and program development.

Responsibilities include trip planning, staff supervision, course instruction, and collaboration with the Director. This is a 10-month on-campus position with benefits; prior university outdoor education experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience in outdoor education/recreation or adventure therapy.
  • Advanced technical outdoor skill sets with certifications.
  • Ability to independently manage groups while traveling for outdoor activities.
  • Experience instructing, supervising, evaluating student participants and employees.
  • Ability to mentor students in leadership, risk management and skill development.
  • Plan travel and trip logistics with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication with a diverse population.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee outdoor education programming and trips.
  • Budget planning and administrative oversight of department operations.
  • Train, supervise and evaluate student staff and leaders.
  • Develop courses, learning outcomes, and risk management plans.
  • Coordinate travel logistics and scheduling for programs.
