Job summary

Scale AI is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the Orchestration Platform, building durable, scalable workflows used across the company. You will design platform primitives, APIs, and services that enable teams to author, run, observe, and safely scale distributed jobs.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in backend and distributed systems, deep knowledge of workflow orchestration (Temporal/Cadence, Kubernetes), and experience operating production systems with reliability and scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience, backend/infrastructure focus.
• Strong reliability, availability, and scale requirements in production systems.
• Deep familiarity with workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal, Cadence, AWS Step Functions, Kubernetes, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture, design, implementation, and operation of Scale’s core orchestration platform.
• Build durable workflow infrastructure using Temporal, Cadence, Kubernetes, and cloud-native systems.
• Define platform primitives and APIs for scheduling, retries, state management, and observability.
• Partner with product, infra, data, and applications teams to translate workflow needs into reusable platform capabilities.
• Improve reliability, scalability, security, and developer experience of services running critical workflows.
• Drive cross-functional technical decisions and clearly communicate platform direction.
