Job summary

True Anomaly seeks a Staff Optomechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design and integration of high‑ performance infrared optical systems for spacecraft payloads. You will serve as a senior technical authority across EO/IR programs, defining standards and approaches for the Payloads team.

You will work with optical, thermal, electrical, and systems teams from concept through qualification and production, ensuring alignment, thermal stability, and optical performance in demanding

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Optical, or Aerospace Engineering (Master's preferred).
• 8+ years in optomechanical design with IR optics or sensor systems.
• Expertise in flexure/kinematic mounts and athermalized designs.
• Experience with structural and thermal analysis tools (ANSYS, NX Nastran, Thermal Desktop).
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and GD&T; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead design of optomechanical assemblies for infrared telescope/sensor systems.
• Develop athermalized optical designs to maintain alignment across temperatures.
• Design and integrate cooling solutions for optical components and detectors.
• Perform structural/thermal analyses to predict performance under loads.
• Collaborate with optical designers to translate prescriptions into manufacturable designs.
• Lead optical alignment and metrology activities and support tolerancing.
• Define and maintain optomechanical design standards for the Payloads team.
• Create CAD models, drawings, and specs; source components from suppliers.
• Document decisions and present at design reviews and milestones.
