Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Optomechanical Engineer to join the Optical Systems group in Lunar Avionics. You will design and integrate lidar and vision-based sensors for crewed and uncrewed lander systems, driving the full life cycle from concept to flight hardware.

Requires 7+ years of optomechanical experience, strong CAD/FEA skills, and ability to collaborate across disciplines in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical/Aerospace/Optical Eng or related degree.
• 7+ years designing optomechanical assemblies for lidar/vision systems.
• Experience with aerospace, automotive, medical, or robotics applications.
• Proficiency in Creo, Windchill, Ansys; Zemax/Code V is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own optomechanical design of optical systems with complex mounting and alignment.
• Develop CAD models, drawings, and installation documentation.
• Lead testing, fixtures, and lab verification of prototypes.
• Coordinate cross-disciplinary design and field testing of lidar systems.
• Support procurement, vendor coordination, and flight qualification processes.
• Guide environmental testing and mission assurance activities.
