AeroVironment, Inc. is seeking a Directed Energy Senior Opto-Mechanical Test Engineer to support Manufacturing and the System Engineering Test Team.

You will help develop, integrate, and execute test strategies for advanced electro‑optical and mechanical systems on prototype, development, and production hardware. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, optical, electrical, or systems engineering.
• 5–7 years of engineering test, verification, or integration experience.
• Experience testing opto-mechanical systems or precision electro-optical assemblies.
• Experience with optical alignment, measurement, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, environmental sensors, optical power meters, interferometers, or similar equipment.
• Experience developing test fixtures and fixtures/tools for production.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, mechanical drawings, and tolerance analysis.
• Strong technical writing, communication, and documentation; U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain clearance.

Responsabilités

• Refine test plans, procedures, and requirements traceability for opto-mechanical systems and subsystems.
• Develop, document, and execute test plans for optical and opto-mechanical components.
• Design, build, and validate test fixtures, tooling, and instrumentation for lab and production areas.
• Execute functional, performance, environmental, vibration, shock, thermal, and reliability tests.
• Perform precision optical alignment and characterization of cameras, sensors, laser systems, gimbals, and related assemblies.
• Integrate mechanical, optical, electrical, and software into test configurations.
• Analyze test data, identify trends, and prepare technical reports and presentations.
• Troubleshoot failures with design engineers to identify root causes and corrective actions.
• Support design reviews, risk assessments, and verification/validation activities.
• Ensure test activities comply with engineering standards and safety requirements.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians; help improve test processes.
• Support prototype builds, production transition, field testing, and customer demos as needed.
