Job summary

L3Harris Space & Sensors Division in Mason, OH, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design, analysis, and test of ruggedized opto‑mechanical and electro‑optical systems for defense and aerospace applications. You will collaborate with designers, systems engineers, and program managers to drive projects from concept to hardware integration.

The role requires strong knowledge of project management, GD&T, and FEA, plus hands-on experience with SolidWorks, FEMAP, NX Nastran, and Matlab.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience.
• Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of related experience.
• Experience with prototype development and aerospace hardware preferred.
• Knowledge of GD&T, DFMA, and ASME Y14.5 standards.
• Experience with optical and electro-optical assemblies is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership to cross-disciplinary Engineering design teams.
• Oversee conceptualization and development of working designs, computer models, layouts and drawings using MCAD/MCAE tools.
• Develop, review and approve engineering documentation, including product specifications, drawings, assembly procedures, and test plans/procedures.
• Perform mechanical analyses of components and subsystems employing classical and Finite Element methods.
• Prepare and review schedules, specifications, process standards, and other contract documentation to plan multi-year development efforts.
• Participate in internal and customer design reviews to demonstrate conformance to requirements.
