Job summary

MKS Instruments, Inc. in Irvine is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and analysis of high-precision opto-mechanical systems for semiconductor manufacturing.

You will guide NX and SolidWorks models, perform FEA with ANSYS, and drive DFMEA within cross‑functional teams to deliver robust tooling and fixtures. The role requires strong communication, project leadership, and mentoring of junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree.
• 7+ years of related tooling/fixtures/systems design experience.
• 5+ years of FEA analysis experience with iterative design feedback.
• Proficient with ANSYS FEA software for design analysis.
• Familiarity with metal fabrication methods including CNC, lathe, and EDM.
• Proficient in SolidWorks and NX CAD for design/documentation.
• Ability to perform tolerance analysis to verify fit and function.

Responsibilities

• Lead design reviews and drive FEA and STOP analyses.
• Model, document, and design mechanical systems, fixtures, and packaging.
• Mentor junior to senior engineers on analysis, design, and deliverables.
• Coordinate cross-functional work across product engineering, test, and manufacturing.
