Job summary

TE Connectivity Corporation seeks a Senior R&D/Product Development Engineer in Optics Core to push the envelope of precision mechanical design for optical connectors. The role focuses on sub-micron alignment, material selection, and reliability across environmental conditions, delivering high-performance interconnect solutions.

Based in Webster, NY, you will prototype, test, and validate designs, working with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and optical quality.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical field.
• 5+ years in precision mechanical design, preferably in connector or optical systems; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD without work experience.
• Hands-on experience with metals and engineering plastics in precision applications.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, Creo) and FEA tools.

Responsibilities

• Design innovative passive optical connector assemblies with sub-micron alignment precision.
• Develop sub-micron tolerance control strategies for reliability across temps.
• Lead prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical designs for optical interconnects.
• Collaborate with optical engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams for DFM and optical performance.
