Job summary

Supermicro is seeking a Sr Optical Transceiver Firmware Engineer to develop embedded software and firmware for cutting-edge 800G, 1.6T, and future-generation optical transceiver modules.

You will design and implement the firmware infrastructure that enables module control, diagnostics, monitoring, configuration, and host communication for high-speed optical networking products used in AI, cloud, hyperscale, and data center environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelors in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years in embedded firmware or software development, preferably in networking or data-center hardware.
• Strong C/C++ programming for embedded systems.
• Hands-on experience with optical transceiver technologies (QSFP28/OSFP).
• Experience with CMIS-compliant firmware and relevant interfaces (I2C, MDIO, SPI).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and debug embedded firmware for advanced optical transceivers.
• Implement firmware features for CMIS, I2C, MDIO, SPI, and PMBus.
• Develop module initialization, diagnostics, telemetry, and control logic.
• Collaborate with hardware, optics, and systems teams on architecture definitions.
• Create manufacturing and validation firmware features for production qualification.
• Develop automation tools and test frameworks for validation efficiency.
• Support interoperability testing with major networking equipment.
• Assist production tests, firmware programming, and field upgrades.
