Job summary

Supermicro is seeking a highly motivated Sr Optical Transceiver Firmware Engineer to develop embedded software for 800G/1.6T transceivers. You will design firmware infrastructure for module control, diagnostics, monitoring, and host communication in data center environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 8+ years in embedded firmware or software for networking/telecom/hardware-control.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systems.
• Experience developing firmware for hardware control and real-time embedded platforms.
• Hands-on with optical transceiver technologies (QSFP28/QSFP-DD/OSFP/CFP).
• Strong understanding of interfaces/protocols: IC/I3C, MDIO, SPI, UART, PMBus.
• Experience implementing/troubleshooting CMIS firmware.
• Knowledge of optical module diagnostics, telemetry, calibration and health monitoring.
• Strong debugging using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and debug embedded firmware for advanced optical transceivers.
• Implement firmware features for CMIS, MDIO, SPI, PMBus and related interfaces.
• Develop firmware for initialization, control, optical diagnostics, telemetry, DDM, alarms, and power management.
• Define firmware architecture and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Develop manufacturing/validation firmware for calibration, testing, qualification.
• Create automation tools, scripts, and test frameworks to improve validation.
• Support interoperability testing with networking equipment.
• Assist production testing, firmware programming, field upgrades, and yield improvements.
• Analyze and optimize firmware performance, reliability, security, and power.
