Job summary

Engineering Resource Group, Inc. seeks a Senior Optical Technician in New Jersey to support fabrication and test of specialty optical fiber components for telecommunications applications.

You will fabricate devices to travelers and product specs and perform coating and thermal processing of optical fibers. You will conduct optical characterization with spectrum analyzers and laser sources, collect and analyze data, inspect materials against quality criteria, and assist engineering in

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years in optical, photonics or precision manufacturing lab.
• Working knowledge of physical optics, fiber fundamentals and optical loss measurement.
• Hands-on experience with optical bench instrumentation including optical spectrum analyzers and laser sources.
• Experience reading and executing controlled work instructions and recording process data in a manufacturing quality system.
• Experience with fiber preparation techniques such as cleaving, stripping and splicing a plus.
• Cleanroom or controlled-environment manufacturing experience a plus.
• Experience with passive fiber component fabrication or fiber-based sensing devices a plus.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and process specialty fiber devices to established work instructions, travelers and product specifications.
• Prepare optical fiber and execute coating, thermal treatment and related fiber processing operations.
• Perform optical characterization and test using spectrum analyzers, laser sources and related bench instrumentation.
• Collect, record and analyze process and test data supporting both production builds and development activity.
• Inspect materials and finished product against defined quality and performance criteria.
• Diagnose equipment, material and process faults and escalates promptly to limit downtime and scrap.
• Support engineering on troubleshooting and process improvement across multiple workstations.
• Maintain equipment, workstations and cleanroom conditions per documented procedures.
