Onto Innovation in Milpitas, CA, is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to develop and optimize optical metrology technologies and to collaborate with software, hardware, and applications teams. Responsibilities include designing experiments, validating specifications, supporting on-site installation, and travel up to 20% to customer sites and manufacturing labs.

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in optical physics and has 5+ years in semiconductor metrology.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Engineering or Sciences with optical physics focus.
5+ years in semiconductor capital equipment engineering, metrology.
Experience in spectroscopic ellipsometric tools.
Experience in integrating precision optical and optomechanical components.
Proficient in Python or Matlab for data analysis.
Strong analytical capability for systematic troubleshooting.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
Willing to travel internationally up to 20%.

Responsibilities

Alignment, optimization, and validation of complex optical systems
Development of best operational methods for tool performance optimization
Design and conduct experiments to characterize, troubleshoot, and improve optical metrology systems
Develop plans of action, and execute in a timely manner
Generate both internal and external technical presentations
Clearly communicate requirements and specifications to cross functional teams
