Job summary

Molex is seeking a Senior Industrial Design Engineer for Optical Solutions in Fremont, CA. You will shape the visual language and tactile experience of high‑performance optical networking hardware, collaborating with Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, Firmware, and Product Management teams.

This role emphasizes manufacturability, usability, and premium feel in dense, thermally constrained environments, with rapid prototyping, usability testing, and documentation of design rationale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of Industrial Design experience with focus on look, feel and tactile quality.
• Experience designing mechanical interfaces for high‑end hardware.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assemblies and drawings.
• Experience with materials, finishes, textures, color application, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Design and standardize user interface elements with explicit appearance standards.
• Specify interface details and define force curves, detents, travel and feedback.
• Translate concepts into manufacturable mechanical solutions while preserving visual cues.
• Produce rapid prototypes to validate ergonomic performance and visual fidelity.
• Plan usability and sensory evaluations to measure perceived quality.
