Job summary

Teradyne, located in North Reading, MA, seeks an Optical Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for design, development, validation, and support of optical systems. You will guide cross-functional efforts to deliver innovative optical solutions meeting customer and business needs.

The role requires a BS/MS in optical fields, 10+ years in optical engineering, and 3+ years in leadership, with strong skills in Zemax/Code V and imaging systems.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
• 10+ years in optical engineering with hands-on design/testing.
• 3+ years in engineering leadership or management.
• Strong knowledge of imaging systems, instrumentation, lens design, illumination and testing.
• Experience with optical design tools such as Zemax, Code V, or similar.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in semiconductor test, machine vision, or automated inspection preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of optical engineers.
• Manage project schedules, priorities, and resources.
• Oversee design, development, and validation of optical systems including imaging, illumination, and metrology.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and systems teams to build integrated products.
• Work with customers and suppliers to define requirements and resolve issues.
• Drive design reviews, risk assessments, and best practices.
• Support product introduction, manufacturing, and field issue resolution.
• Foster innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
