Job summary

Liberty Waste Solutions is seeking a Lead Operator for the Rowland Transfer Station in North Carolina. You will oversee daily operations, supervise staff and contractors, and ensure safety, compliance, and efficiency in yard waste processing and recycling activities.

You will manage equipment operations, coordinate maintenance, and support financial performance while upholding site SOPs and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in transfer station, landfill, recycling, or related operations.
• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience operating heavy equipment in a production environment.
• Experience managing contractors and coordinating multiple work groups.
• Strong understanding of waste management operations, environmental compliance, and workplace safety.

Responsibilities

• Direct all daily transfer station operations, ensuring safe, efficient movement and processing of incoming and outgoing materials.
• Supervise acceptance, inspection, sorting, loading, storage, and shipment of yard waste, recyclables, and other approved materials.
• Operate heavy equipment including excavators, wheel loaders, crushers, grinders, screeners, water trucks, and other equipment as needed.
• Serve as backup Scale Attendant, including weighing inbound/outbound vehicles and entering transactions.
• Oversee all third-party contractors on-site, ensuring safety policies and contract requirements are followed.
• Coordinate contractor activities to maximize productivity while maintaining safe traffic flow.
• Maintain safe traffic patterns for customers, employees, and commercial haulers.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and environmental permits.
