Job summary

Amentum is seeking an Operating Engineer 3rd Class in Arlington, VA to operate and maintain Central Plant equipment and building systems. This licensed engineer will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on boilers, HVAC systems, pumps, motors, generators, and electrical equipment.

The role requires a Secret clearance, a DC 3rd Class Boiler License, and at least 3 years in engineering services or related fields. Strong troubleshooting and the ability to read complex manuals are essential.

Qualifications

• Active Secret Security Clearance is required.
• DC 3rd Class Steam & Hot Water Boiler Engineer License is required.
• Minimum of 3 years in Engineering Services or related field.
• Experience operating and maintaining boilers, HVAC, and building mechanical/electrical equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills; able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain Central Plant equipment and building systems.
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on boilers, HVAC, pumps, motors, generators, and electrical equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and implement repairs.
• Monitor system performance for efficient facility operations.
• Inspect equipment and systems to identify maintenance needs and potential failures.
• Respond to malfunctions, alarms, and emergencies promptly.
• Maintain maintenance records and regulatory documentation.
• Ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and facility policies.
• Coordinate with management, contractors, and vendors for maintenance and repairs.
• Assist with equipment upgrades, renovations, and capital projects.
• Support training of less experienced engineering staff.
