Job summary

Temporal is seeking a Software Engineer II for the Open Source Server team in Seattle. You will design, implement, and ship features for the Temporal server, tackling distributed systems challenges across matching, scheduling, visibility, and workflow lifecycle.

You will collaborate with engineers, product managers, cloud teams, and customers to deliver scalable, reliable systems while growing your skills in distributed systems engineering. Temporal is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Qualifications

• Production backend systems experience with distributed systems concepts.
• Strong CS fundamentals including concurrency, data structures, and debugging.
• Experience writing production-quality code in Go or Java with emphasis on correctness.
• Familiarity with fault tolerance, replication, scheduling, and performance tradeoffs.
• Ability to break down ambiguous problems and iterate with code reviews.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and ship features for the Temporal server with teammates.
• Tackle distributed systems problems in task matching, scheduling, and visibility.
• Balance developer experience, performance, and operability in design choices.
• Collaborate with product managers, cloud teams, and customers to deliver scalable solutions.
• Improve server reliability with tests, instrumentation, dashboards, and runbooks.
• Participate in design discussions and code reviews to share best practices.
• Contribute to improving developer experience for open source users and enterprise customers.
• Share knowledge with teammates and contribute to a collaborative culture.
