Job summary

Walden Robotics seeks an experienced on-robot software engineer to own major portions of the robot software stack. You will work primarily in C++ and Python, tying perception, control, teleoperation, and autonomy into a robust system, from onboard services to deployment tooling.

Responsibilities include building core onboard services, integrating perception and control, deploying pipelines, and extending logging/telemetry. Strong Linux, CI/CD, and cloud experience are valued.

Qualifications

• Proven experience building production software systems with strong fluency in modern C++ and Python.
• Hands-on experience developing software for robots or other latency-sensitive, safety-conscious physical systems.
• Deep comfort developing, debugging, and profiling on Linux, including networking, processes, and system performance.
• Experience with inter-process and networked communication frameworks such as gRPC, WebRTC, DDS, or similar middleware.
• Working knowledge of Docker, CI/CD systems, and cloud services (AWS).
• Track record of writing well-tested, maintainable code and improving codebases through good architecture.

Responsibilities

• On-Robot Software Development: Design, implement, and maintain core onboard services and libraries in C++ and Python, with emphasis on performance and reliability.
• Systems Integration: Connect perception, control, teleoperation, and autonomy components into cohesive robot behaviors; own cross-cutting concerns like message transport, lifecycle, and configuration.
• Deployment & Release: Build and improve pipelines to package, version, and deploy software to robots in the field, including Docker-based environments and CI/CD workflows.
• Observability & Data: Extend onboard logging, diagnostics, and telemetry, and pipelines that move robot data to the cloud (AWS S3) for debugging and fleet insight.
• Developer Tooling: Improve the build system, test infrastructure, and developer workflows for a fast-moving robotics codebase.
• Field Support: Debug issues on real robots in deployments and harden the stack for production environments.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with controls, AI, teleoperation, and hardware engineers to define interfaces and land features end-to-end.
