Job summary

The City of Rifle seeks an experienced Building Inspector to perform full city inspections after a short orientation to city procedures, codes, and automated software. Independently verify structural safety and code compliance with approved plans, and manage permits, contractor licenses, and inspection scheduling using city systems.

Requirements: High School Diploma or GED, ICC B1/B2, Colorado driver’s license, pass background/MVR checks; ability to obtain B3 Plans Examiner, M1/M2 within a year.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible building inspection experience.
• High School Diploma or GED; ICC B1 and B2 certifications required.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license; pass background and MVR checks.
• Ability to obtain B3 Plans Examiner, M1 and M2 within 1 year; Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform full-scope city building inspections for code compliance and safety.
• Independently verify structural soundness and approved plans.
• Manage permits, contractor licenses, and inspection scheduling using city software.
• Communicate findings and required corrections to applicants.
