Job summary

Workday is seeking a hands-on Senior Product Manager (P4) to lead Observability strategy with a focus on Distributed Tracing. You will partner with engineering and ML teams to shape AI-powered detection and triage for complex distributed systems and drive actionable product decisions.

You will define roadmaps, requirements, and success metrics, translating technical concepts into impactful features while collaborating across Design, Eng., and Data Science to ship high-value observability

Qualifications

• 8+ years in product management, focused on observability or related tooling.
• Deep expertise in distributed tracing (OpenTelemetry, Jaeger, Zipkin) and span propagation.
• Strong technical background reading code, APIs, and architecture.
• Hands-on AI/ML techniques for detection and triage.
• Experience with ML engineering collaboration and model eval metrics.
• Experience with LLM-based summarization for incident analysis.
• Ability to define requirements for triage workflows and explainability.
• Proven track record shipping complex technical products.
• Excellent communication and data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities

• Own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for Observability, focusing on Distributed Tracing and trace context propagation.
• Define and drive AI-enabled anomaly detection roadmaps, including ML-based detection methods.
• Partner with ML engineering to define model requirements, evaluation metrics, and feedback loops.
• Define requirements for LLM-based root-cause summarization and triage assistance.
• Specify how confidence scores and explainability surface in triage workflows.
• Collaborate with engineering to define technical requirements and review design docs.
• Define success metrics (MTTD, MTTR, alert noise reduction) and track impact.
• Conduct stakeholder research to identify pain points in debugging and incident triage.
• Write clear product requirements, user stories, and specs with cross-functional teams.
• Stay current on observability and AI/ML trends to inform roadmap.
