Job summary

CVS Health Enterprise Technology is seeking a Senior Observability Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate large-scale observability services for billions of logs, metrics, and traces daily. Proficiency in Go, Python, Java, and OpenTelemetry is essential to drive standardized instrumentation across CVS Health environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software engineering
• \u00a03+ years observability practices (SLIs/SLOs/SLAs)
• 3+ years building backend services in Go and/or Java
• 3+ years with OpenTelemetry
• 3+ years cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD)
• 3+ years cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• 2+ years distributed data pipelines
• 2+ years Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or CloudFormation)
• 2+ years Helm/Kustomize
• 2+ years Grafana or similar backends
• 2+ years relational DB (PostgreSQL/MySQL)

Responsibilities

• Develop custom software to drive the observability platform using Java Spring Boot, Python, Go
• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services using Go, Python, Java
• Lead OpenTelemetry adoption including client libraries, conventions, instrumentation patterns
• Scale telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces) for high throughput and cost efficiency
• Create self-service observability capabilities to simplify onboarding
• Implement end-to-end monitoring of the observability platform with SLOs and health checks
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to set reliability standards
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead post-incident reviews
• Automate workflows via tooling, CI/CD improvements, and platform automation
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management
• Produce technical documentation and best practices
• Engage with engineering teams to influence roadmap and deliver improvements
• Provide mentorship and architectural guidance across teams
