Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Senior Observability Platform Engineer to design, build, and operate large-scale observability services using Go, Python, and Java. You will lead OpenTelemetry adoption, collaborate with SRE and Cloud teams, and guide platform strategy for reliable, cost-efficient telemetry at scale.

The role focuses on driving developer experience, defining standards, and delivering a self-service observability ecosystem across CVS Health environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
• 3+ years with observability practices (SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, alerting, incidents).
• 3+ years building production backend services in Go and/or Java.
• 3+ years implementing OpenTelemetry and instrumentation patterns.
• 3+ years with cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 2+ years with IaC tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• 2+ years with Helm/ Kustomize.
• 2+ years with Grafana OSS or comparable observability backends.

Responsibilities

• Develop custom software to drive the observability platform using Java Spring Boot, Python, Go-lang etc.
• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services using Go, Python, Java (Spring Boot)
• Support and lead enterprise-wide adoption of OpenTelemetry, including client libraries, conventions, patterns
• Design, architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces) for performance and cost efficiency
• Develop self-service observability capabilities that simplify onboarding and troubleshooting
• Implement end-to-end monitoring of the observability platform, defining SLOs and health checks
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to establish reliability standards and incident practices
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident mitigation and root-cause analysis
• Automate operational workflows and CI/CD enhancements to reduce toil
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and best practices
• Engage with teams to gather requirements and influence roadmap
• Provide technical leadership through mentorship and architectural guidance
