Job summary

Airwallex is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Observability team to build and operate scalable platforms that give engineers clear insight into the health and performance of distributed systems worldwide.

You will champion end-to-end observability, partner with cross-functional teams including SRE, security, and product, and drive standards and automation to reduce incident time and improve cost efficiency across multiple regions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficient in at least one backend language (Go/Java/Python/Kotlin).
• Hands-on experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale.
• Practical experience with observability platforms (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, etc.).
• Strong understanding of metrics, logs, traces, alerting, SLI/SLOs and incident management.
• Experience with Kubernetes, public clouds (AWS/GCP/Azure), and IaC tools (Terraform).
• Excellent communication and collaboration across globally distributed teams.
• Ownership mindset and focus on operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate scalable observability platforms (metrics, logs, traces, events, dashboards, alerts).
• Develop software enabling instrumentation, monitoring, and troubleshooting with minimal friction.
• Establish observability standards and telemetry practices, including SLOs/SLIs and runbooks.
• Improve incident detection, diagnosis, and response with actionable alerts and correlations.
• Create self-service tooling to promote best practices in observability.
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, SRE, security, and product teams to deliver durable solutions.
• Improve scalability, reliability, performance, and cost efficiency across regions.
