Job summary

The Jefferson County Department of Health is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Nutrition Consultant to plan, direct, and coordinate the work of staff providing nutrition and diet consultation services for patients, professional staff, and community groups.

These individuals are responsible for ensuring that the clinic area runs efficiently and that the work performed within the unit meets all program requirements, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications

• Current CDR registration is required.
• Licensure by the Alabama Board of Examiners for Dietetic/Nutrition Practice OR valid license from another state with Alabama licensure within 90 days of hire.
• Experience as Nutrition Consultant in the merit system or health-related environments.

Responsibilities

• Ensure clinic runs efficiently and per guidelines by directing client flow and preparing reports.
• Participate in education and training of patients, clients, and families.
• Procure and manage inventory to support department operations.
• Maintain laboratory according to federal guidelines.
• Support staff professional development and stay current with field developments.
• Oversee audits to ensure program guideline compliance and reporting.
• Interview, counsel, and instruct clients, including answering questions.
• Determine client program eligibility and provide supplies as needed.
• Supervise staff by assigning work, monitoring progress, and training.
• Manage time and payroll processes.
• Conduct training to ensure compliance with procedures and standards.
