Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a GS-5 Nursing Assistant to join the nursing care team, assisting licensed staff in providing care across preventive, acute, sub-acute, maintenance and hospice services.

Qualifications

• Ability to assist in the full range of nursing care under RN/LPN supervision.
• Ability to communicate orally with patients, families and staff; serves as a preceptor to new NAs.
• Ability to recognize and respond to emergent patient care situations.

Responsibilities

• Assist licensed nursing staff in care of patients/residents in various care settings.
• Mentor and educate peers; contribute to orientation and practical training.
• Maintain safety and observe infection control, reporting changes promptly.
• Demonstrate KSAs for handling acute, sub-acute and chronic conditions in diverse settings.
