Job summary

Battelle Memorial Institute is seeking a Senior Nuclear Systems Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and integration of complex nuclear systems. This role serves as a technical authority on nuclear systems engineering, guiding multidisciplinary teams through the full project lifecycle — from concept development and requirements definition through design, licensing support, testing, and deployment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field.
  • Progressive nuclear systems engineering experience with reactor systems or fuel cycle facilities.
  • Knowledge of nuclear safety analyses, systems engineering methodologies, and regulatory frameworks (10 CFR, DOE Orders, ASME).
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing technical deliverables on complex programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead systems engineering for nuclear reactor, fuel cycle, radiological, or related critical infrastructure programs.
  • Interface with government sponsors, regulators, and clients to communicate findings and support licensing.
  • Perform safety analyses, reliability assessments, and risk evaluations per nuclear codes.
  • Develop design descriptions, safety analysis reports, and licensing submittals.
  • Guide proposals and program execution, defining scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Collaborate across nuclear, mechanical, electrical, and controls teams for integrated performance.
  • Ensure quality assurance and configuration management across engineering work.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers to ensure deliverable quality.
