Job summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) in Rancho Bernardo, CA seeks a Mechanical Engineer for Nuclear Design to lead the mechanical, thermal, and structural aspects of advanced reactor core systems.

You will mentor a multidisciplinary team, ensure compliance with nuclear codes and QA standards, and coordinate with engineering, regulatory, and project stakeholders to advance reactor design and licensing efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; advanced degrees preferred.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams on nuclear or high-hazard projects.
• Ability to obtain DoD security clearance and interact with government stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design, development, and optimization of SMR core systems.
• Perform engineering analyses to support licensing submissions.
• Ensure compliance with ASME BPVC, ANSI, IEEE and other nuclear standards.
• Coordinate with materials, manufacturing, and regulatory teams to drive design decisions.
• Mentor engineers and staff to achieve project milestones and quality goals.
