Job summary

Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) in Boston, MA is seeking a senior accounting leader to serve as Controller’s delegate for daily accounting operations, reporting, close, and compliance. You will oversee the general ledger, capital assets, payroll, and donations, ensuring accuracy and strong internal controls.

The role demands nonprofit accounting experience, CPA preferred, and advanced Excel/Sage Intacct skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; CPA strongly preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience with staff management.
• Experience with grants, endowments, and government awards.
• Advanced Excel and Sage Intacct experience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Controller’s delegate for day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, close, audit and compliance.
• Oversee general ledger governance and financial data integrity.
• Manage monthly and annual close activities, including timelines and issue resolution.
• Direct accounting for capital assets, payroll, contracts, and cost allocations; ensure consistency.
• Oversee cash receipts for memberships and donations; ensure timely reconciliations.
• Support budgeting/forecasting and develop reports for reconciliations and decisions.
• Lead internal controls and process improvements to enhance efficiency.
• Partner with departments to translate financial requirements into guidance.
