Job summary

The Alaska Community Foundation is seeking an experienced Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations, manage the monthly and quarterly close, and ensure the integrity of financial records for a diverse portfolio totaling approximately $300 million in assets.

Reporting to the Director of Finance and supervising the accounting team, the Controller will strengthen internal controls, oversee fund/endowment accounting, and coordinate audits and Form 990 preparation while pursuing process

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required; CPA preferred.
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Minimum three to five years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, endowment accounting, or investment accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, cash and investment reconciliations, payroll accounting, fixed assets, and fund accounting.
  • Own the close calendar, close checklist, and preparation of monthly/quarterly close packages.
  • Review reconciliations and resolve items; escalate to Director of Finance as needed.
  • Maintain GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards throughout records and reports.
  • Coordinate with Development to align fund documentation with accounting systems.
  • Lead audit processes and support Form 990 and state filings.
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff; promote process improvements and automation.
