Job summary

The Alaska Community Foundation seeks a Controller to lead daily accounting operations, own the monthly and quarterly close, and ensure GAAP and nonprofit ASC 958 compliance across a multi-fund portfolio totaling about $300 million.

Reporting to the Director of Finance and supervising the accounting team, the Controller will strengthen internal controls, coordinate audits, and partner with Development on fund documentation and donor-facing reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Minimum of three to five years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, or endowment accounting.
  • Familiarity with fund accounting software and investment reporting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting operations including general ledger and payroll.
  • Own the accounting close calendar, close checklist, and preparation of close packages.
  • Maintain internal controls over financial reporting and cash management.
  • Coordinate audits and assist with Form 990 and state filings as needed.
  • Lead accounting staff, drive process improvements, and collaborate cross-functionally.
