Job summary

OpenAI Foundation is seeking an Accounting Manager with 10+ years of nonprofit accounting and audit experience to lead the Foundation’s nonprofit accounting, financial reporting, annual audit coordination, and Form 990 preparation process. You will own the close and the quality of the records, schedules, and reporting that support transparent stewardship of charitable resources.

This is a hands-on leadership role reporting to the Global Corporate Controller.

Qualifications

• Progressively responsible accounting or audit experience, with nonprofit focus.
• Experience owning close and financial reporting, audit coordination.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP for nonprofit.
• Hands-on experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Ability to coordinate with auditors, tax advisers.
• Discretion with confidential financial, donor and employee data.
• Motivated by mission and able to build processes in evolving org.
• Experience at a foundation, public charity, or grant-making org is a plus.
• CPA qualification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own an accurate and timely close and review complex entries and reconciliations.
• Lead nonprofit accounting including donor restrictions and net asset classifications.
• Oversee grant accounting and reconcile grant records to the general ledger.
• Manage annual Form 990 preparation with external advisers.
• Oversee financial reporting, program analyses, and variance analyses.
• Strengthen controls and lead automation and AI-enabled workflow improvements.
• Coordinate annual audit timetable and respond to auditor requests.
