Job summary

Socket.dev in the United States is seeking a Sr. Network WAN Engineer to design, deploy, and maintain robust data center networks. This on-site role in Chantilly, VA requires TS/SCI clearance and travel up to 25% to client sites.

You will lead Layer 2/3 designs using BGP, VLANs, MLAG, and Spine/Leaf topologies, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate across teams to ensure performance and security across multisite WAN architectures.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing and managing BGP and data center architectures.
• Expertise in VLAN, MLAG, LAG configuration and troubleshooting.
• Experience with Spine and Leaf topology design.
• Strong knowledge of trunk/access ports and their configurations.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.
• Active TS/SCI clearance and ability to maintain access.
• Experience deploying core routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), MPLS, and SD-WAN platforms.
• Proficiency with network telemetry tools (Wireshark, SNMP, NetFlow, SolarWinds).
• 15+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain complex Layer 2/3 data center architectures using BGP, VLANs, MLAG, LAG, Spine/Leaf topologies, Trunk/Access ports, and other related technologies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into effective network solutions.
• Provide expert guidance and support to junior team members, assisting them in their professional growth and development.
• Stay updated on the latest networking trends and best practices; proactively seek out new learning opportunities to enhance technical expertise.
• Contribute to the documentation of network infrastructure designs and configurations for future reference and knowledge sharing among team members.
• Travel up to 25% of the time, as required, to perform on-site installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities at customer sites or data centers.
