A leading tech solutions provider is seeking a Senior Networking Technician in San Jose, CA. Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in field deploying infrastructure projects.
  • Cabling certification desirable (CNCI, BTEC, City & Guilds, or BICSI).
  • Self-disciplined with excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient with copper and fibre testing equipment.
  • Excellent ability to interpret network changes.

Job description

As a Senior Networking Technician, you will be integral to the successful delivery of high-profile and complex infrastructure projects for our Fortune 100 hyperscale customers. Working alongside the wider Field technician team and our delivery partners, you will take the lead on on-site delivery and communication with our internal and external teams to ensure projects are delivered to the high standards expected of the WWT Hyperscale team. You will also take on a mentorship and training role for newer field engineers as we build the next generation of talent. This role will allow you to build on your previous field engineer experience, continue developing your technical skills, and start improving processes and documentation by regularly sharing suggestions and feedback with the wider engineering team. If you love travelling and are ready to step up and take on a more senior role within a delivery team, then this is the role for you. This position will require the ability to travel up to 100%.

Role Overview
  • Lead a variety of projects for our customers across data center, enterprise, and retail space, ensuring all scope is completed and deliverables are acquired on time
  • Pull and terminate Cat6/6a and various fibre structured cabling systems
  • Rack and stack network devices, decommission old devices, and patch cables
  • Deploy Fully Built Racks into Data Centers and other Environments. Installing all cross-connect cabling as required.
  • Install Wireless Access Points, terminate, test, and dress cabling to a high standard.
  • Work with local partners or internal field engineers on more complex projects
  • Mentor/Train newer colleagues so that they can execute effectively on their own and with other partners.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, ensuring customer standards and WWT standards are maintained and exceeded.
  • Provide lessons learned after projects with a view to raising the quality of the team’s execution.
  • Provide redline documentation updates to the wider engineering team for review to ensure documentation is up to date and accurate.
  • Provide accurate As-Built documentation after projects that require it to aid the CAD team in delivering final documentation to the customer.
  • Maintain composure, always be willing to learn, accept, and deliver constructive feedback in a fast-paced environment.
  • Review upcoming assigned projects to ensure all provided scope and BOM meet the project requirements. Be comfortable using internal WWT Tools to access supply chain data and understand where to elevate when there are issues or gaps.
  • Be hungry to expand your knowledge on core network technologies, including routing and switching, WIFI, firewalls, compute, storage, AV, power, and cabling.
  • Be prepared to travel to customer sites regularly.
  • Understand the WWT offerings & capabilities so you can articulate them at a high level and identify business opportunities to refer to the sales team for qualification.
  • Always maintain a high level of courtesy and professionalism with customers.
Skills / Experience required for the Opportunity
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the Field deploying infrastructure projects for large enterprise customers for a VAR or SI.
  • Cabling certification desirable - CNCI, BTEC, City & Guilds, or BICSI
  • Proficient in the use and understanding of copper and fibre testing equipment, including OTDR, Fluke, network analyser, and wire map
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills required.
  • Self-disciplined, self-starter, professional who can successfully complete the required scope to an industry-leading standard.
  • Ability to read and interpret MOPs, Cable Run Lists, Patch Plans, and schematics
  • Excellent ability to interpret the impact of network changes.
  • Deep experience in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of infrastructure components. Be adept at fault-finding and troubleshooting in high-pressure, mission-critical environments.
  • Knowledge of how to read and analyze wireless survey results (Ekahau, Airmagnet, Hamina, etc.) & reports, as well as how to correctly advise changes to resolve signal issues and anomalies.
  • Demonstrated experience of logical configuration –install firmware, push configurations, make configuration changes, and troubleshoot using CLI & GUI (Arista, Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto most commonly seen devices)
  • Strong practical skills.
  • CCNA/CWNA or demonstrable knowledge preferred.
