Job summary

Capital Region BOCES is seeking a Senior Network & Systems Technician focused on supporting the Server Infrastructure team at NERIC with Citrix and VMware infrastructure. You will lead the work of the team to ensure highly available server environments and application delivery services for subscribing school districts.

You will administer Citrix Cloud DaaS, Citrix Apps and Desktops, and VMware platforms; manage core Windows Server components, AD, DNS and security, and mentor staff while planning

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT or related field; or HS diploma with 4+ years of relevant experience.
• 2–3 years of experience in computer systems and networks; leadership experience preferred.
• Strong Citrix Cloud/Virtual Apps, VMware, Windows Server admin skills.
• Clear communication under pressure; ability to document environments clearly.
• Interest in continuous learning and developing skills; school district ops experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Administer, configure, and secure Citrix Cloud DaaS and VMware infra.
• Manage Citrix policies, VDAs, MCS/PVS, StoreFront/Workspace, Gateway/NetScaler.
• Manage core Windows Server components, AD, DNS, PKI, storage and security.
• Utilize PowerShell for automation and scripting tasks.
• Lead technical projects, migrations, upgrades, and DR tests.
• Mentor team, produce technical docs and training materials for staff.

What you will do:

As the Senior Network & Systems Technician focused on supporting the Server Infrastructure team at NERIC with Citrix and VMware infrastructure, you will lead the work of the team that strives to ensure that critical server environments and virtual application delivery services are highly available and operating effectively and efficiently for our subscribing school districts. In your role, you can expect the following:

• Your day will be busy administering, configuring, and securing Citrix Cloud DaaS, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops architecture, and VMware virtualization platforms.
• You will handle Citrix policies, VDAs, MCS/PVS concepts, StoreFront/Workspace, Gateway/NetScaler ADC, Cloud Connectors, and application delivery.
• You will manage core Windows Server components, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, certificates/PKI, storage, identity, and security fundamentals while utilizing PowerShell for automation.
• Every interaction is a unique challenge, which includes analyzing complex multi-layer incidents, isolating root causes, and restoring service under pressure.
• You will be part of a customer service organization, using your technical aptitude to plan and lead technical projects, maintenance windows, migrations, upgrades, and disaster-recovery tests.
• You will lead and mentor the team, prepare clear technical documentation, diagrams, procedures, and staff training materials to keep our organization and client school districts running smoothly.

What you bring to our team:

• College Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field with at least 2–3 years of experience supporting computer systems and networks. A High School Diploma and at least 4 years of applicable experience will be considered. At least one year of experience as a team leader or project leader is required.
• Strong foundational knowledge of Citrix Cloud/Virtual Apps, VMware, Windows Server administration, and network security fundamentals.
• Ability to communicate clearly under pressure via phone, email, web-conferencing, and in-person to establish effective working relationships with customers, vendors, and managers.
• Ability to prepare clear technical diagrams, reports, and maintain accurate environment records.
• Passion to help others, great customer service skills, a personal drive for continuous learning, and a desire to develop your skills. Any experience working in school district operations is ideal but not required.
