Job summary

The Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education seeks a Network Systems Administrator to support the operation and maintenance of the RIDE LAN and network infrastructure. You will manage user access, email, and web services, while guiding technical direction and vendor coordination.

Responsibilities include backups, firewall updates, server installation, and overseeing Oracle database deployments. A bachelor’s degree and five years of related experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Minimum five years of computer support experience or equivalent.
• Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations relevant to state systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily backups of Department data.
• Maintain and secure network infrastructure and servers.
• Update firewall configurations for security and access.
• Provide access to RIDE LAN resources for new users.
• Provide limited desktop support and advise on advanced issues.
• Monitor and troubleshoot network access and E-mail services.
• Coordinate quotes for software/hardware purchases.
• Document inventory and IP address usage; support Oracle databases.
