Job summary

SimSpace is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Network Simulation, to lead the kernel-space internet routing simulator. You will architect an eBPF-based layer, integrate XDP/TC hooks, and drive a multi-tenant cyber range platform. The role demands deep systems expertise and strong architectural leadership.

You will mentor engineers, shape the technical roadmap, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver production-grade simulation at scale.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in Linux kernel networking and eBPF program development.
• Strong systems programming in C or Rust for eBPF development.
• Understanding real-world internet routing: BGP, ASN topology, CIDR allocation.
• Experience designing systems with clear control/data plane separation.
• Demonstrated technical leadership across teams.
• Familiarity with deploying on Kubernetes environments.
• Experience with network simulation, cyber range infrastructure, or defense-related work.
• Background in cybersecurity, defense, or government-adjacent environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end architecture of the eBPF-based routing simulation layer, including XDP and TC hook point design, BPF map structure, and traceroute/MTR fidelity in kernel space.
• Design and build the control-plane topology database and the data pipeline from real-world topology data.
• Architect the in-range proxy agent bridging the control plane to cyber ranges and handle DNS delegation and traffic forwarding.
• Define interface contracts between control plane and in-range agents, including updates and graceful degradation.
• Serve as technical lead, guiding architectural decisions and maintaining engineering quality across the team.
• Collaborate with adjacent teams on the long-lived, multi-tenant platform for active cyber range deployments.
