Job summary

MITRE in McLean, Virginia seeks talented Network Engineers to design, implement, and modernize secure, scalable network environments for national security and public-interest missions. Qualifications

• Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
• Must have an active Secret U.S Government issued Security Clearance and eligible for Top Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
• Minimum on-site requirement of 4 days per week; hands‑on, mission‑driven work across networking and digital service management.
• Knowledge in: Network Architecture & Strategy, target‑state designs, and service frameworks; ITSM and ServiceNow; cybersecurity risk analysis; network monitoring and telemetry; data center architecture and SDN/SD-WAN.
• Experience with AI infrastructure, data center networking, and large-scale high-bandwidth, low-latency designs.

Responsibilities

• Define architecture and engineering strategy for network and service management platforms.
• Configure, deploy, test, and validate enterprise network infrastructure and security services across IPv4/IPv6, LAN/WAN, data center, and cloud.
• Support data center network operations, capacity planning, consolidation, and migration initiatives; work with servers, VMs, containers, Kubernetes.
• Design and implement network monitoring and observability; use SNMP, NetFlow, telemetry, dashboards for reliability.
• Develop network models and simulations to evaluate architectures and performance; document findings for sponsors.
• Apply ITSM principles (ServiceNow) to improve service delivery and incident management.
• Conduct cybersecurity risk assessments and propose mitigation and risk-based trade-offs.
