Job summary

American Family Insurance is seeking a Senior Network Engineer in Madison, WI to design, implement, and maintain network solutions that support business needs. You will lead network design projects, ensure security, and drive performance improvements across multiple sites.

The role emphasizes Cisco SD-WAN, Meraki/WiFi, Cisco ACI, routers/ACLs, Infoblox DDI, and cloud networking with AWS/Azure/GCP. Expect collaboration with vendors and cross-functional teams in a flex office environment.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of network topologies, protocols, and technologies (LAN/WAN/VPN).
  • Ability to design, deploy and manage Cisco SD-WAN across sites.
  • Experience with Cisco Meraki, WiFi networks, and Cisco ACI.
  • Configure routers, ACLs, and interfaces.
  • Manage Infoblox DNS/DHCP/IPAM for operations.
  • Use Python to automate network tasks.
  • Automation with Ansible and Terraform for device config and deployments.
  • Experience with AWS VPC, Azure VN, and Google Cloud VPC networking.
  • Familiar with GitLab CI/CD and Agile teams.

Job description

The Senior Network Engineer will collaborate with others in the division to provide and maintain applications that meet business needs. Responsible for software design and development for moderate to complex business solutions, providing technical guidance and leadership for specific applications.

Position Compensation Range: $99,000.00 - $167,000.00. Pay Rate Type: Salary. Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates. This position does not have approval for Visa sponsorship now or in the future regardless if applicants are on OPT/STEM status.

Network Design and Implementation

Leading the design, planning, and implementation of network solutions to meet organizational needs. This includes evaluating current systems and making recommendations for improvements.

Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Overseeing the maintenance of network systems and ensuring their optimal performance. This involves diagnosing and resolving network issues promptly to minimize downtime.

Security Management

Implementing and managing network security measures to protect data and systems from unauthorized access or attacks.

Documentation and Reporting

Maintaining detailed documentation of network configurations, changes, and performance metrics. Providing regular reports to management on network status and performance.

Vendor Management

Coordinating with external vendors and service providers to ensure the procurement and maintenance of network equipment and services.

Continuous Improvement

Staying updated with the latest network technologies and trends to continuously improve network infrastructure and processes.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge and Understanding of network topologies, protocols, and technologies such as LAN, WAN, VPN.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, deploy, and manage Cisco SD-WAN solutions across multiple sites.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, deploy, and manage Cisco Meraki and WiFi networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and manage Cisco ACI environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to configure and manage routers, including setting up routing protocols, access control lists (ACLs), and network interfaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and configure Infoblox DNS, DHCP, and IP Address Management (DDI) solutions for efficient network operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Python for automating network tasks and scripts for configuration management.
  • Expertise in using Ansible and Terraform to automate network device configuration, manage playbooks, and ensure consistent deployment across network environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based networking services such as AWS VPC, Azure Virtual Network, and Google Cloud VPC.
  • Demonstrated ability to use GitLab's features for collaborative development, including CI/CD pipelines, issue tracking, and project management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of application development methodologies (e.g. Agile) and product-based teams.

In this flex office/home role, you will be expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month from one of the following office locations: Madison, WI 53783; Boston, MA 02110. Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius of the office location (or 35-mile radius for Boston). Internal Candidates are welcome to apply however you may be subject to relocation if you are not in the same job function or SLT.
