Job summary

NJ Transit in Essex County, Trenton area,Hybrid work model, seeks a Senior Network Engineering Specialist to lead design, implementation, and modernization of the enterprise network.

The role covers routing, switching, WAN/SD-WAN, data center networking, security integration, and cloud connectivity across a large, distributed environment. Collaboration with architecture, operations, and vendors is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
• 10+ years of enterprise network engineering experience in large environments.
• Expert-level knowledge of routing and switching; Cisco ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Design, engineer, implement, and optimize enterprise LAN and WAN networks.
• Develop configurations for Layer 2/3 environments using BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, VRFs.
• Develop network standards, reference architectures, engineering specifications, and configuration standards.
• Perform capacity planning and modernization of infrastructure.
• Engineer WAN connectivity including Internet, MPLS, EPL/EVPL, and dark fiber.
• Troubleshoot WAN performance, latency, and carrier transport issues.
• Support Cisco data center technologies, including Nexus and Cisco ACI.
• Develop High-Level and Low-Level Designs, MOPs, and diagrams.
• Develop automation and monitoring using Python, Ansible, APIs, Terraform.
