Senior Network Administrator
The Department of Administration's Office of Technology and Information Services is seeking a Senior Network Administrator to join our team. The Office of Technology and Information Services (OTIS) is the state’s central provider of IT services to state government agencies. OTIS oversees the state’s federated model for implementing, enhancing, and protecting information technology (IT) resources and the utilization of IT shared services across agencies. In this role you will ensure basic and advanced technical solutions are provided to our internal and external customers/users technology designs, installations, modifications and troubleshooting requests while adhering to agency and state policies. You will be responsible for installing, configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining network devices operating systems and their performance. They will maintain detailed documentation and keep the Director of Network Services up to date on all issues within the network. This position is onsite in Columbia, South Carolina.
Responsibilities of the Senior Network Administrator:
- Using industry best practices, install, configure and troubleshoot network devices and their operating systems.
- Perform peer review of network configuration changes to be made by other Network Engineers.
- Troubleshoot switching and routing issues across the network.
- Implement, optimize and troubleshoot routing and tunneling protocols across the network.
- Support network connectivity for cloud and DR networks.
- Monitor network performance and utilization with available tools to ensure that the network remains healthy and functional.
- Utilize test environments, when possible, to evaluate and test new network configurations or hardware so that the network can be improved with no adverse impact to customers.
- Maintain detailed documentation in order to ensure Network Services employees are kept up to date with changes to the network infrastructure.
- Create and maintain Visio drawings and narrative descriptions of the network for each state agency migration.
- Work with the Division of Technology Operations Project Management to ensure accurate network project documentation.
- Provide technical expertise in project meetings and continued project efforts.
- Assist with the development of network project plans.
- Determine feasibility, cost, equipment needs and time constraints/allocations for network projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A bachelor's degree related to Information Technology. Relevant experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
- At least four (4) years of relevant experience working in a large, complex network environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of LAN, WAN, MAN and data transport such as MPLS and Metro Ethernet;
- Knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF; TCP/IP; VLANs; 802.1q trunking;
- VoIP design and support; wireless networking;
- network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds; network access control (NAC);
- security standards such as those published by NIST;
- compliance requirements such as PCI and HIPPA.
- Skilled in working on large, complex networks with more than 500 routers/switches/encryption devices;
- managing multiple connections to service providers;
- managing multiple projects at the same time.
- Ability to communicate effectively utilizing both verbal and written methods;
- work multiple tasks with competing priorities.
- Cisco CCNP or comparable experience.
- Must obtain and maintain CJIS certification.
- Position may require overnight travel.
- Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends.
- Position requires on-call shifts and call back.
- Position reauires routine driver duties.
- Position requires frequent stooping and/or bending.
- Position requires frequent lifting upto 50 lbs.
- Position requires up-to-date certifications.
- Position required to report to work during emergency situations and hazardous weather events.
- Must have a valid class D driver's license. Must maintain an up to date Defensive Driving Certificate.
- Position may require work beyond the 37.5-hour work week.
- Must carry a mobile communications device If provided and provide a home telephone number.
