Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in network engineering, with a focus on designing, implementing, and maintaining LAN and WAN networks. The candidate should also have solid experience working with security professionals to implement best practices in the network. The ideal candidate will ensure the security, reliability, and scalability of our network systems while supporting mission-critical applications and processes.

This role is pivotal in driving operational efficiency, cybersecurity, and the integration of emerging technologies within our utility network. This position is located in San Jose, CA.

Essential Functions:

1. Design, implement, and manage LAN and WAN infrastructure, including SD-WAN devices, VPNs, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
2. Ensure network security through segmentation and wireless role configurations.
3. Monitor hardware health and network connectivity health, performance, uptime, and capacity.
4. Develop and maintain Linux scripts or equivalents for network automation and management.
5. Lead security-related initiatives and projects.
6. Collaborate with security professionals to implement best practices in the network.
7. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all network processes and configurations.
8. Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including management, vice presidents, and individual contributors.
9. Remain calm under pressure and handle high-stress situations with professionalism.
10. Implement robust cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive data and SCADA systems.
11. Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and risk mitigation.
12. Respond to network incidents, ensuring prompt resolution to minimize downtime.
13. Provide Tier 3 support for complex issues escalated by IT staff.
14. Work closely with IT staff, engineers, and external vendors to implement new technologies and resolve issues.
15. Mentor junior network administrators and provide technical guidance.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
2. Minimum of 15 years of experience in network engineering.
3. Extensive experience with Cisco network devices.
4. Proficiency with Palo Alto Networks firewalls.
5. Strong understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking.
6. Experience with network security initiatives, including network segmentation and wireless role configurations.
7. Proficiency in Linux scripting or equivalents.
8. Experience with networking in PaaS environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
9. Excellent communication and documentation skills.
10. Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees.
11. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
12. Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, CISSP, PCNSE).
2. Experience with network monitoring tools and software.
3. Knowledge of cloud networking and security.

Salary Range: $124,600 - $222,800
