Job summary

Better Impact is seeking a senior C#/.NET engineer to drive the migration of Volunteer Impact from VB.NET/.NET Framework to C#/.NET 10. You will own the technical direction, minimize downtime during the migration, and work with a small core team and QA to ensure regression gates are satisfied.

You will replace legacy dependencies and modernize security, CI/CD, and reporting tooling, enabling a future-ready platform for thousands of organizations using Volunteer Impact.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional C#/.NET experience with depth in the framework
• Led or acted as technical anchor on a .NET Framework-to-.NET Core migration for a large production monolith
• Managed incremental migrations with minimal downtime
• Deep NHibernate experience to preserve behavior during migration
• Replaced legacy components (DI containers, hosting, libraries) in production
• Experience with legacy .NET ecosystem components (MVC-to-Core routing, custom security)
• Ability to replace components while the system stays live
• Familiarity with migrating SSRS reports to modern platforms
• Improved CI/CD pipelines and gate processes for regression protection
• Work in a small core team with DevOps and dedicated QA for regression gates
• VB.NET familiarity is a bonus, not required

Responsibilities

• Lead the migration of Volunteer Impact backend VB.NET/.NET Framework to C#/.NET 10, defining and executing the plan on a live system
• Modernize a custom security framework to work on the new stack with zero authorization bypasses
• Strengthen CI/CD pipelines and integrate regression gates with QA
• Ship migrated areas to production incrementally while the legacy app remains active
• Become the second engineer able to independently cut and deploy production releases
• Identify and replace legacy dependencies without introducing regressions
• Make sequencing calls on what migrates first and where automated conversion is possible
• Lay the foundation for a team-ready, modern stack that any C# dev can contribute to
